john andrews paintings
Explore my semi-abstract & representational paintings inspired by the Australian landscape & seascape. There are also a few paintings from our travels to Europe.
In my landscape paintings I always try to capture a moment of beautiful light or a tree showing its true colours under the bark. I have been influenced by the great masters on trips to European galleries – particularly the Impressionists. Van Gogh is my favourite from those excursions, for the way he plastered paint on impasto and the bravery of using green in beards! The other artists I admire are Fred Williams, Lloyd Rees, Clem Millward, Margaret Olley, Ian Fairweather, Ainslie Roberts and Andrew Wyeth.

Meander 2
In the higher country above Gloucester, there is an area called Moppy. It is a cool area of long valleys with quite high rainfall. Moppy River is a small fast-flowing body of water with some low-level back fills. This is one of those areas with a bend in the river and reeds on the river edge.
This is my second painting of this spot. I called it Meander as the water really just ambles around the corner here. I have added more plants on the river bank and a different colour which is probably representative of the different time of day.
