Zum Steinbruch
Along a fire trail in the Bulga Forest I came across these magnificent trees. There are a couple of brown stringy barks and forest red gums, and the white tree is a stinging tree, which really stings you if you touch its leaves. My father had forest leases in these areas and ran cattle on them, as did all the other people on the Bulga Plateau. They used to camp out for a week each year to bring the cattle back to their settled properties for branding. Mad cattle chases were the go, as they were all young men who had been through World War 2. Since leases have been revoked, the area has been overgrown with lianas and other lower-storey plants which are a real fire danger in dry, hot times.
