Jewels of the Rainforest
On our property near Gloucester, NSW, we have about 70 hectares of rainforest that hasn’t been cleared. I fenced it off from my cattle and left it unscathed. We noticed some Illawarra Flame Trees poking their heads up above the understory and kept an eye on them, and after 6 months they lost all their leaves, then came into flower. What a bright flowering it was! Spectacular! The painting was created in semi art-nouveau style to accentuate the curving forms of trees as they fought for sunlight in dense conditions and is staged at the edge of the forest looking down into a gully, with many other associated trees and plants.
