Goanna up a Gumtree
When we moved to the coastal hinterland at Waukivory, we bought a property without a house on it. The best we could do was buy an old, dilapidated caravan, which we placed on top of a hill next to the rainforest that filled the valleys away to the East. Out of this rainforest came large goannas to check us out. By large, I mean very large, as some of them were 1.5 metres in length! Our Jack Russell, Monty, decided he would protect us and advanced menacingly upon them. When they turned tail, he would chase them up a tree, and he would then strut importantly around at the base of the tree, his job done! Monty has since left us due to a snake bite. Unfortunately, this is also part of the law of the land in Australia. Beauty and loss!
