The tides in this area are extremely high and it covered a lot of land inwards – completely different to the tame tides on our East Coast. A fire had ripped along the ridgelines after a long dry spell. Most of the understory had been burnt out, and after a good drop of rain, wildflowers bloomed profusely at ground level. The central tree is a Strangler Fig which has grown around another tree and killed it. The fire ran up the dead wood in the middle, leaving a hollow that will be a great place for possums and goannas to sleep and be safe. George to Wingham on a bridle trail for provisions. Once there, and having purchased flour, tea, salted bacon and rum, he would have a lot to drink at the local hotel! I fenced it off from my cattle and left it unscathed. We noticed some Illawarra Flame Trees poking their heads up above the understory and kept an eye on them, and after 6 months they lost all their leaves, then came into flower. What a bright flowering it was! Spectacular!
